Review

Nigerian, Feranmi Adewunmi ‘aka’ Fera is proud of her accomplishments and her job as a personal banker, but her parent’s constant reminder that she should be married is getting to her. Although she sees nothing wrong with being single. She has tried to honor her Nigerian culture by honoring her parent’s wishes, knowing that they would only approve of her being with a Nigerian man. Unfortunately, this caused her to lose a good man that was of African descent.

Enter Alex Montgomery, an African American, who is CEO of Montgomery Construction. Also, the man that Fera used to date. When Alex runs into Fera, she asks him to do a favor for her. She asks Alex to pretend to be her man since her parents are about to come for a visit soon. Although he was hurt by the pain, she caused him from their breakup, the feelings he had for her never went away. So it came as no surprise to him when the pretending became something real that neither one of them could ever have expected.

An Unexpected Blessing by Unoma Nwankwor is a novel of love, forgiveness and second chances. It was interesting to see the differences in culture between Nigerian and African Americans. Although the story does start out slow because it is too detailed. Too detailed with trivial things that have no substance to the storyline. There are a few editing errors, but it does not necessarily take away from the story. An Unexpected Blessing has a Christian feel that has an underlying message that anyone can surely benefit from.
