After Marigold Shadd’s parents disappeared during a mission trip, she and her sister Ixora moved to Mapleville, a rural community on the shores of Lake Erie.
Their grandmother Annabelle “Big Momma” Henson adored them but Marigold had lost faith in everything including God. Marigold’s best friend Logan van Basten became the silver lining in her life. Days after their high school graduation, they ran off to New York and took up cruise ship jobs.
Time may heal all wounds but the decade spent at sea didn’t fill the void in Marigold’s heart. When Logan revealed that his wife Alena was unable to carry a child and asked Marigold to become their surrogate mother, she said yes.
Marigold saw Logan's request as an opportunity to prove her sister Ixora wrong. Ixora had always said she was selfish. What could be more redeeming than her carrying a baby for a woman she didn't even like?

Since the death of Marigold’s parents – she has come up short in the having Faith department. She felt that since her parents were doing God’s work – they shouldn’t have been taken away from their children. Even though she and her sister were raised by their grandmother, Big Momma in a religious household after their parent’s death – the relationship between them has been strained for years.
The one person Marigold could always count on was her best friend, Logan. Their friendship was so strong that she ended up following him to New York after they graduated – where they took a job working on cruise ships. Marigold and Logan maintained their close friendship even though Logan is now married to a delightful woman named Alena. And I use the word delightful loosely.
Marigold and Logan’s friendship is tested when Logan asks Marigold to become a surrogate since his wife is unable to bear children.
That’s all I’m going to spill about the story because there are some things you need to find out on your own.
Author Vivian Kay has once again amazed me with her talent to challenge my way of thinking when it comes to certain topics. She does an extraordinary job of keeping readers enthralled with her body of work. I had an idea how this story would end, and I was completely wrong.
Knit Together tackles the subjects of faith, forgiveness, friendship, family dynamics, boundaries, and much more. One of the reasons I love Vivian Kay’s style of writing is she covers topics that are close to home. She pulls up in you and never lets you go until the very end. Now that I think of it – I’m not sure if she lets the reader go at the end because these characters will stay with you after you read the book. I’m still thinking about Marigold and the decisions that were made by each character.
I know this is a novelette, but I need this story to continue. I would love to find out more about these characters.
