Review

The After House is the second novel I’ve had the pleasure of reading by Michael Phillip Cash and my favorite by far. The story grabbed my attention from the first page and kept me hooked to the very end. The After House is part ghost story/part love story.

Remy Galway is still reeling from her messy divorce and is hoping for a fresh start with her daughter Olivia. Their journey brings them to Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island to a historic 300-year-old cottage. Remy and Olivia gets more than they bargain for after settling into their new home. It turns out their new home is haunted by a grouchy old sea captain. The unwanted ghostly house guest resents the intrusion and sets out to scare them from his home.

This story was filled with suspense and intrigue. The love story spanned generations. What I enjoyed most about this story were the flashbacks, they went into great detail about the life and background surrounding Eli’s ghost. They meshed very well with the story as a whole and didn’t seem out of place at all.

I also liked the personality of Eli’s character, he mostly came off like a jerk in the beginning but he grows on you eventually. Mainly because the tactics he used to frighten everyone was hilarious at times and made me chuckle. He also showed a sweeter side when he finally came to the realization that he did care about what happened to Remy and Olivia after all!

The After House was an incredible read filled with a lot of historical information that I think many readers’ would enjoy immensely. I gave this story five stars and look forward to more from this talented author!
