Reader’s Spotlight: Award-Winning Reviewer Johnathan Royal

original-7

Orsayor: Tell us about Books, Beauty & Stuff?

Johnathan: Books Beauty and Stuff started from frustration from not seeing many black books You Tubers, and I thought to myself “What if I could feel that void”? Plus, I have always wanted to be in front of the camera doing what I love which is reading and reviewing book mainly African-American Literature. Beauty is doing makeup and Stuff could be many things: politics, mental health, current issues in the world and other random things. I honestly didn’t think it would last more than four months, but now four years later, I am still alive and kicking LMAO!!!!!

Orsayor:  Who are your favorite authors and what is it that strikes you about their work?

Johnathan: WHEW! Girl, that’s like asking my favorite MAC eye shadows, LOL. Hmmm, Cairo because his brand of erotica is raw, very honest, real plus he was of the first few male authors who supported and recognized his LGBTQQ fans with no questioning, hesitation or problems.

J.D. Mason for sure. Her writing is like poetry. Old school with a modern twist I can call it. Her Books: On the Eighth Day She Rested (2003) and The Real Mrs. Price (2016) was amazing.

Those two are my current faves

Orsayor:  If you were shipwrecked on a desert island what three books would you want with you?

Johnathan: Oooh, good question. Definitely Cairo’s Retribution. The Man Behind Essence by Edward Lewis and Mayor for Life by Marion Barry
Orsayor: If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Johnathan: Raw, Real, and Johnny. ☺
