Orsayor: Thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
Rhonda: I’m a divorced, single mama to two children. Well one is grown, but you know he’s still my kid. My youngest is 9 going on 39. I grew up in New Jersey, but I’ve lived in the Atlanta area for almost 18 years. I’m a sold out to Jesus die-hard Christian and everything else in my life comes from that core place. I also have a really spoiled toy dog that barks at everything.
Orsayor: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Rhonda: It depends on the length. If I didn’t work full-time I think I could write a book in two months. A novella maybe a month or so, so double or even triple that and that’s how long it’s taking these days.
Orsayor: Do you ever get Writer’s Block?
Rhonda: Nah, I get lazy though.
Orsayor: What literary character (from any of your books) is most like you?
Rhonda: Hmmm…I don’t think I’m like any of my characters. If I had to say someone it might be Brooke Jordan from Give A Little Love. I haven’t experienced the kind of betrayal she had to endure, but I’d like to believe I’d get to the same place she arrived at by the end of the story.
Orsayor: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
Rhonda: My most recent release is Live A Little and it’s the second story in the Jordan Family series. Live A Little is the story of Raine Still and Gage Jordan, a grieving woman and an injured soldier, whose chance meeting on a cold winter night saves one of their lives. Sounds interesting, right?
So, for Raine Still, the actress may be a little young, but since black don’t crack I’ll say Jurnee Smollett. If I was going for an actress closer to her age, I’d say Kerry Washington might be a better choice. The character is 34. As for the man, I want Idris Elba to be all my heroes, but he’s a little old for Gage Jordan, so let’s see…Derek Luke. He’s a hottie.
Orsayor: What is your favorite motivational phrase?
Rhonda: It’s a scripture actually. Proverbs 18:16 “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.” That’s one of many scriptures that keep me in my purpose.
Orsayor: What advice would you give to your younger self?
Rhonda: Don’t eat that, girl.
Orsayor: Is there one question above all else that you don’t want to answer about yourself? What is the question?
Rhonda: What’s my greatest fear?
