REVIEW

George Foss and Liana Decker were hot and heavy during their first semester of college until she committed suicide over winter break. She was George’s first love and he never quite got over her.

Fast forward twenty years… George’s life is mediocre. He has an uninteresting job and a dull on again, off again, girlfriend he does not like all that much despite their long relationship. One day George sees Liana in a bar in Boston, where she persuades George to do a favor for her as she claims her life is in danger.

The Girl with a Clock for a Heart by Peter Swanson was a hard book to really get into. The storyline just did not sit well with me at all, mainly because I did not care for the characters: George and Liana. George came across as very boring, uninteresting and gullible. Liana was just conniving and only out for self. What irritated me the most about the story was that it did not seem believable. I just kept asking myself “How can he not see right through her lies?”  I mean come on!!

I did like that the story was fast-paced and kept me guessing. Which is the only redeeming quality.  I thought the ending could have been better. It was left open for a reason but I felt it could have been done in some other way. Overall it just was not my cup of tea, so to speak.

2-stars
