REVIEW

Sophie Stone is in her 30s, living with her two best friends from college in a small flat. The job she has her boss is a …well you get my point. Always riding her, about one thing or another, although she is an exemplary employee. So when an opportunity for advancement is thrust into her lap by her boss, she takes the reins and does better than either one of them expected. The only thing is Sophie is not sure if she wants the position.

On Valentines of all days, Sophie’s boyfriend breaks up with her, stating that she is too predictable and boring. Confused and depressed Sophie tries to understand where she went wrong. Around this same time, she finds out that a relative that she never met before has left her an inheritance. Before she can take possession of anything there is just one stipulation, she must meet her dad. Sounds like it would be an easy feat…right Wrong! Sophie never knew her father; she has only heard stories of the man who abandoned his wife and young daughter. The fact that if her mother finds out, she may disown her. Sophie is torn on what to do. Does she seek unanswered questions of abandonment? Or does she leave the past in the past?

Conditional Love by Cathy Bramley was a very good story. It was a bit confusing in the beginning because what you think may be errors or wording used, makes sense once you realize that the author is not from the States but that of British descent. Once you get used to the difference you will find a humorous story about a woman wanting love so bad, she looks at things with eyes wide shut. The character development in Sophie is apparent after taking just so much. The reader is sure to root for Sophie and want her to wake up to the shenanigans of her ex-boyfriend. This was a very good read, and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
