REVIEW

There is nothing more than a parent’s unconditional love.  It’s most evident when that child is addicted to drugs and alcohol.  In My Daughter Amy, we see Mitch’s unconditional love for his daughter, Amy Winehouse.

Most of us think we know the tragic tale of uber-talented singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse, but Mitch clues us in to Amy the daughter and sister. Mitch gives us intimate look into Amy’s private life.

Mitch Winehouse holds nothing back from the first drug use to the rocky marriage to Blake Felder.  It is a painful look at a father who is unable to help the daughter he desperately wants to save.  Just when it seems Amy is finally getting herself together, she had one final slip.

As fan, I wanted to get to know the “other” Amy.  I wanted to see her through the eyes of her family and not the superstar.   I found myself empathizing with Amy’s parents.  I can’t imagine their pain and suffering. The pain in Mr. Winehouse’s book is reflected in each chapter.

Working in a hospital gives me access to witness someone going through alcohol withdrawal and it is worse than a drug.  Unfortunately for Amy, years of heavy drinking and trying to stop “cold turkey” was too much for her already damaged body.

I highly recommend this book.
